Exciting News: Global.health Receives Funding from the Wellcome Trust!
We are excited to announce that Global.health has been awarded a new research grant from Wellcome, a global charitable foundation dedicated to advancing science to improve health and save lives.Â
With three years of funding, Global.health will expand exciting work building a global and distributed platform for infectious disease surveillance and response.
We have agreed on these key research initiatives to focus on:
Develop computational and AI tools for rapid and open data sharing during infectious disease outbreaks.Â
Multimodal data integration across health, climate, and socio-economic sectors. Â
Collaboration and adoption of Global.health tools at local and global levels.Â
This grant will also substantially expand the Global.health network adding partners from Sub-Saharan Africa and Oceania to those from Europe, the Americas, and Asia.
Global.health’s mission is to enable rapid sharing of trusted and open public health data to advance the equitable response to infectious diseases. We remain committed to making our work freely accessible for anyone to adopt, explore, and disseminate under the MIT License (software) and Creative Commons license (data).
Infectious diseases know no borders, making global collaboration essential in the fight against outbreaks. The support from Wellcome will enable us to further our mission of enhancing the response to infectious diseases through innovative approaches and collaborative partnerships. We aim to promote equitable partnerships that work to improve data sharing and strengthen data science capacity in LMIC, to give all communities access to the tools and resources needed to combat outbreaks.
Working with Wellcome and new partners – including international health agencies, WHO regional offices, national public health institutes, and the research and modelling community – Global.health aims to create an open, comprehensive, and integrated platform for real-time access to multimodal outbreak data and also provide the tools, analyses, and models needed to inform decision making and response.Â
This grant is crucial for advancing our efforts in combating infectious diseases. By utilizing data science and promoting collaboration, we aim to enhance outbreak responses and improve public health. We sincerely thank Wellcome for their support and all our partners for their invaluable contributions. Together, we will innovate and work towards eliminating the threat of infectious diseases to global health security.
Stay tuned for more updates as we embark on this exciting journey together!
